Originally it means "half world", consisting of decadent and fashionable
people. However, the word is mostly used to describe courtesans and their

past; the Parisian nightlife, Victorian luxury maisons privées and movies like
Moulin Rouge, in addition to scenes from Interview with the vampire and

EPOCH: Ca. 1870-1910
COLORS & MATERIALS: Black, red, satin, silk, fringes, feathers and fur.
ACCESSORIES: Lacing, chokers, transparent, glittering and black gems, net
stockings, garters, long gloves, ostrich feather, high heeled shoes and laced
boots, cigarette holders. A bottle of absinthe and some decadent literature is
almost compulsory.
MAKE UP: Pale skin, red lips and smoky eyes.
HAIR: Arranged, straight or wavy, any nuance of blonde from platina to dark
blonde, red, chestnut, dark brown or black.
