RENAISSANCE
The elaborate Renaissance line is inspired by the north- and central European courts from the 1500- and early 1600s: Henry VIII
with his assortment of wives, the dark and mighty style of the Spanish court, conquistadors, Henri IV with his feather hats,
Elisabeth the Great and our own Christian IV´s early reign. The color palette is warm and rich, with detailed decoration on
practically everything.
    
EPOCH: Ca. 1500-1600
COLORS & MATERIALS: Velvet, satin/silk, wool, linen, fur. Red, black, brown, dark blue, off pink, cream, silver, gold.
ACCESSORIES: Brooches, crosses, pearls, ruff collars, tall hats with ostrich feathers, capes & cloaks.
MAKE UP & HAIR (WOMEN): Pale skin, light pink lips & invisible eye make up. Hair arranged, often partially hidden by head gear.
HAIR (MEN): Short hair & well done mustachet/goat´s beard.
ATTITUDE: Majestic & eloquent in a Shakespearean way.
LIFE STYLE: Explorer´s journeys, studies (art, the classical languages, natural sciences & astrology), embroidering, playing harpsichord,
theatre, feasts & large banquets, court intrigues, rivalry & poison murders.
HOME & INTERIORS: Solid, square & dark, richly ornamented furniture. Wooden panels, cassette ceilings, lead glass & enclosed beds.
PLACES TO BE: Castles & palaces (like Akershus castle), Siena, Firenze, Fontainebleu, Tower of London, Hampton Court
SEASONS & ATMOSPHERES: Autumn, winter & early spring.
MUSIC: Renaissance music ...
MOVIES: Elizabeth, Elizabeth - the golden age, Shakespeare in love, Blackadder II, The Tudors, Luther & parts of Orlando.
LITERATURE: Shakespeare, Marlowe, Machiavelli.
